Where is the money?
How do I get into this sector?
How do I make contacts?
What is my best approach?
How can the Club help me win deals?

These, and questions like them are what we ask and answer in this section.  The first rule of success to become a 1%er is, to be in the right place at the right time and to ensure that your skills, and energies achieve a maximum return.  1%ers dont leave it to chance.  They find out the right time and place and are there first.  They look at trends and focus on next year not last year.  We have a new economy with new rules, new sectors.

How do I find out the best sectors?
Well,   lots of ways, start by going on job boards like Monster.  They will list how many vacancies they have in each sector.  Go to sales sites and they will list the number of sales vacancies per sector.  The higher the number implies the highest growth!  If they are looking for people, it is becaeu they need services those people will supply and are short at the moment!  Offer them a better choice than an employee!

To save you the trouble I have come up with:

  • Science
  • IT
  • Technology
  • Medical
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Internet
  • Emerging Markets: India/China/Brazil

Companies are also wanting to pay in a different way.  Business is being denied bank capital, business angel or venture capital finance.  They ideally want to pay on a low risk basis.  So anything you can link to payment by results is a winner.
They cannot raise finance so if you can stretch your payments you are affectively bypassing that problem.  Say you have something for example that you would normally charge £10,000 for.  Why not consider taking a £1000 deposit and 12 payments of £1,000.   That way your customer can afford the deal.

Well financed companies.  One of my rules of selling is, "Sell to the rich they are the ones with the money".  In the new economy where credit is tight and going to remain so, this is even more true.  So who are the rich?

Re: What sectors are the highest growing at the moment?

Interesting and sensible blog. Howver bad things might be in one area. There will always be something on an up. The trick is to focus your selling efforts where the money is. In my business I was finding it suddenly all uphill as the sector contracted. But with a little innovation we were able to talior what we do to a growth sector. Pick a growth sector then become an expert in it is my advice.
